Amber Howell
Graduate Assistant Coach

Amber Howell has been elevated to the assistant coaching position for Armstrong State women's basketball for the upcoming 2016-17 season. She spent the 2015-16 season as a graduate assistant for the Pirates.

Howell played two seasons for the Pirates from 2013-15, playing in 55 games over two seasons. As a junior in 2013-14, she averaged 7.7 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. As a senior in 2014-15, she averaged 7.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. The Athens, Ga., native played for two seasons at Central Georgia Tech prior to transferring to Armstrong State.

Howell received her bachelor's degree in liberal arts in 2015 and is currently pursuing her graduate degree from Armstrong in professional communication and leadership.

She is a native of Athens, Ga., and Howell graduated from Prince Avenue Christian HS in Athens, where she was the team MVP of the Wolverines in 2009-10.


Katie Buckner
Graduate Assistant Coach

Katie Buckner begins her first season as a graduate assistant for Armstrong State University women's basketball in 2016-17.

Buckner worked with the Pirate basketball program in 2015-16 as a volunteer assistant coach. She is currently pursuing her graduate degree in professional communication and leadership from Armstrong State Universtiy.

A four-year women's basketball player at Mars Hill College from 2009-13, Buckner served as the school's SAAC rep as a senior in 2012-13. She played in 82 games in her four-year career for the Lions.

Buckner graduated from Cherokee HS and her mother, Debbie Groover Buckner, played collegiately at the University of Tennessee from 1977-81.
